Sweet Bonanza is the Pragmatic Play slot that started the candy series: a 6-reel, 5-row grid that pays for at least 8 matching symbols wherever they land, clears them with a tumble and, in free spins, drops multiplier symbols worth 2x to 100x. The provider's game page states a default RTP of 96.48%. Sources put the maximum payout at 21,100x or 21,175x the bet, and they do not agree on volatility - one listing says medium, another says high.
That disagreement is the reason for this page. Below, each figure is tied to where it comes from, the rules are laid out in the order you meet them on screen, and the official demo is pointed out as the place to check all of it for free. Nothing here is advice on how to play for profit: outcomes are random, and the house keeps an edge.
Key figures for Sweet Bonanza
Pragmatic Play released the game on October 22, 2019. Bet limits are quoted in euros and dollars by our sources, not in pounds, so read them as a guide only.

Rules of the base game
To win you need at least 8 matching symbols on screen after a spin; the provider words it as 8-12+ matching symbols anywhere on the tumbling reels. The symbols do not have to touch or line up - the game uses a pay-anywhere approach, so the only question after each spin is how many of one kind are showing.
A win sets off the tumble: the game removes the winning symbols and adds new ones, and if that produces another win the process repeats. It continues until no win is produced, which means a single stake can be settled over several tumbles. There is no separate skill element and nothing to choose between spins except the stake.
Sweet Bonanza symbols and paytable
The paytable has two tiers, candies above fruit, and the best regular symbol pays up to 50x. For the top bracket - more than 12 of a kind - a UK operator page lists the following values. The exact amounts at your stake are shown in the game's own paytable, which is the reference that counts.
| Symbol | Top payout for over 12 symbols |
|---|---|
| Heart-shaped candy | 50x |
| Pink candy | 25x |
| Green candy | 15x |
| Blue candy | 12x |
| Apples | 10x |
| Sugarplums | 8x |
| Watermelons | 5x |
| Grapes | 4x |
| Bananas | 2x |
The lollipop scatter sits outside this table. It pays for 4 to 6 on screen - the provider says 4-6 scatters award up to 100x - and it is also the key to the bonus round.
Free spins and the multiplier symbols
Landing 4 or more lollipop scatters in one spin awards 10 free spins. During the round, three more lollipops award an additional 5 free spins each time they land. The tumble works as in the base game; what changes is that multiplier symbols join the grid.
These multipliers only appear during the free spins feature. Each shows a random value from 2x to 100x, and at the end of a tumbling sequence the values of all multiplier symbols add together. A round can pass without a single multiplier, or with several on a spin that wins little - the feature raises the ceiling, it does not raise the floor. That is what the volatility labels are trying to describe.

RTP and volatility, read carefully
The default RTP is 96.48% according to Pragmatic Play's own page, and a review we saved lists the same figure while also saying the return goes up to 96.49%. Small gaps like this usually reflect different game modes or configurations. RTP is a theoretical average across a very large number of spins; it says nothing about one session, and a casino may run a build with a lower return than the default. The figure in the information panel of the game you actually open is the one that applies to you.
On volatility the sources split three ways: medium, high, and medium to high. We will not pick a winner, because none of them publishes the method behind the label. The practical reading is the cautious one - plan for long stretches of spins that return less than the stake, and treat the 21,100x or 21,175x maximum as a rule of the game rather than something to aim at. No stake level or timing alters the randomness of a spin.
The Sweet Bonanza series after 2019
The original has been followed by Sweet Bonanza 1000, Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter and Sweet Bonanza 1000 Dice, and UK lobbies also show Sweet Bonanza Xmas and Slingo Sweet Bonanza. The artwork is close across the family, the mathematics is not. Every figure on this page belongs to the 2019 game only. If a site quotes a multiplier above 100x for Sweet Bonanza, it is describing a different title - our Sweet Bonanza 1000 Slot Review: RTP, Candy Bombs and the Free Demo covers the version most often mixed up with this one.
What we like
- Default RTP of 96.48% is printed on the provider's own page
- Win rule fits in one line: at least 8 matching symbols anywhere
- Official demo lets you see free spins and multipliers at no cost
- Works across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices
What to keep in mind
- Sources disagree on volatility and on the maximum payout
- Bet limits are published in euros and dollars, not pounds
- Multipliers exist only in free spins, so the base game is plain
- Several look-alike sequels make figures easy to confuse
Is it the right game for you?
It may suit you if you prefer a slot whose rules you can verify in a minute and you are comfortable with uneven results. It is less suitable if you expect steady returns, or if a run of losing spins tempts you to increase the stake: the game has no memory of earlier spins. Try the demo first. If you later play with money, decide the amount beforehand and stop when it is spent.
Our verdict
We rate Sweet Bonanza highly as a product, with one reservation. In its favour: the provider states the RTP itself, the demo is free, and the mechanics - Scatter Pays, tumbles, additive multipliers - are easy for a newcomer to follow. The reservation is the information around it. Volatility is labelled three different ways and the maximum payout two ways, so a reader has to cross-check instead of trusting a single spec sheet. The rating reflects how clearly the game presents itself, not any expectation about results.
Variance simulator
Simplified model based on the published RTP and volatility, not the game's real math. For learning only — results are random and prove nothing about future sessions.
